Congresswoman Ivy Arago’s entry to the political scene was marked by her election as Councilor of San Pablo City at the age of 28. In 2004, at the age of 31, she ran for a seat in the House of Representatives and became one of its youngest members. She is a staunch defender of truth, justice and transparency in the government.
Prior to her political career, she was involved in a wide assortment of jobs, such as pre-school and grade school tutor, concert show producer and organizer, real estate salesperson and bridal fair organizer. She also became a volunteer teacher, radio announcer, general manager of Siesta Residencia de Arago, marketing executive, wedding planner and banquet host, and TV segment host of Real Lives, Real People in RPN 9.
Apart from her active role as a policy-maker, Arago is currently a member of numerous organizations such as the National Federation of Women’s Club-Laguna Chapter, Lady Local Legislator’s League of the Philippines, Ugnayan ng Kababaihan sa Pulitika, Asian Women’s Network on Gender and Development, Center for Research and Organizing Inc. and San Pablo Youth Development Affairs.
She graduated valedictorian in high school at the Canossa College and was constantly in the Dean’s List at the Ateneo de Manila University where she earned with distinction a degree in Legal Management. She likewise completed the Young Local Legislators course in the University of the Philippines, as well as a Leadership and Development Management course at the Asian Institute of Management.
She is very much into sports and enjoys playing badminton, volleyball and soccer. She is also fond of reading self-improvement books during her leisure time.
